With the summer cycling season coming to a close, OTCC members continued to enjoy events up and down the country, making the most of the lovely autumn weather before the dark nights return! The club is now well and truly settled into a new home at Behind Bars in Abingdon and the regular club rides go from strength to strength, with new routes, new ride leaders and new members!

With closed road sportives becoming more and more popular, OTCC joined 15,000 other riders at Velothon Birmingham. The club was well represented with Ali Fairley, Chris Brand, Ian Wilson, Tom Bowtell, John Bowtell, Ian Lowe, Harriet Woollard, Steve Shirley, Mick Chambers and Simon Deakin all participating in the inaugural event. By all accounts it was a fair challenge with a reasonable amount of climbing and great support from the locals along the route. A super performance by all, which included some of our riders raising money for charity.

During October Jo Edwards participated in The Palace to Palace Charity Ride, starting from Buckingham Palace and ending at Windsor Castle. A fantastic effort from Jo, who rode 90 miles raising money for The Prince’s Trust in the process. It was a lovely day for the ride, along a fantastic route with superb views and a chance to meet the one and only Chris Froome (see photo below)!

The regular longer ride on the second Sunday of the month is proving popular with members and October was no exception, with a ride out to Dragon Hill and the White Horse at Uffington. Thanks to Harriet Woollard for a great route which was enjoyed by all.

Congratulations and well done to all our riders, whether completing a challenge, taking part in an event or joining us on our social club rides. Keep it going!

As well as cycling, we love to socialise! The club hosted the annual family and friends BBQ at The Kings Head and Bell in Abingdon and we all enjoyed the recent club social where Ian Hamilton updated members on what it takes to become a ride leader, refreshed both our group riding skills and general etiquette for road cyclists! We are now preparing for the OTCC AGM which is due to take place in early November.

If you enjoy road cycling, group riding and fancy being part of this success, then please join us on a club ride. All riders are welcome. The rides depart from the Behind Bars in Abingdon at 7:00am on Saturday, 8:30am on Sunday and 6:30pm on Wednesday.
